The Baymont Hotel (2024)
Dan Bell
13 in x 19 image framed in a 25 in x 19 in matted acrylic frame.
First print artist proof giclée produced from scan of original polaroid artwork.
Signed and dated.
The Baymont Hotel started as a “polaroid in distress” artwork in 2024 which was later put through a high resolution scanning process and edited for printing on archival cotton rag paper. This print is the artist proof first print. It was a test to see how it would look on paper as well as framed. The original sale of these giclées happened over a year ago. These giclées are very scarce and very difficult to acquire now. This print was hanging in my office for over a year.
Free shipping to US. International customers please fill out a purchase request. I will send you an invoice with shipping costs.

“After emerging from one of the darkest periods of my life experiencing both mental and physical misery I realized that being truly healthy required reestablishing myself as an artist. This collection of works represents a very profound renewal period for me. The end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 has been a whirlwind of loss and trauma but I promised myself that I would never regress back to that dark place that kept me prisoner for so long. My mind is healthy again and I’m able to deal with the challenges life tends to throw at all of us from time to time. Recently I set up my studio to create new things. I went into my archives and found these prints. At the time I printed these images they didn’t pass the grade for me. They needed something more so I put them away for later. Looking through my supplies I found paints and dyes and realized that manipulating these images with those materials would bring them to where I wanted them to be. I have created art that speaks to me, my kind of art and I’m so proud of these new works. Looking at them now I know I accomplished something that I thought was lost. They exemplify a healthy me. They shine in a way that I shine today. I’m so proud to be able to offer them to you.”

Laurel Mall “Looks can be Deceiving” (2010-2012)
8.5 × 11
Taken in the Laurel Mall in Laurel, Maryland with a Canon Rebel XS. At one point Laurel Mall was working on bringing business back through aggressive advertising and offering competitive leasing to new retailers. The “Looks can be Deceiving” campaign was plastered all over the mall’s interior to generate excitement for this new era. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The retailers weren’t interested, shoppers weren’t interested and vacancies continued to rise. Laurel Mall opened to huge fanfare in October of 1979. In 2012 the last tenant locked their doors and the mall was closed and later completely demolished. The land where the mall stood is now an outdoor “towne centre” with shopping and restaurants.

Children’s Asylum at Night (9.10.19 10:53 pm)
This high speed photo was taken at 10:53 PM on September 10th 2019 with a Sony a7s II.
Here is the Wikipedia article about the Children’s Asylum/Gundry Sanatarium. I first photographed the building in 2015 during the daylight hours. My original video tour of the house/hospital garnered nearly a million views and has been discussed at length across the web in forums, videos and podcasts. I returned to this property many times over the years. The condition of the building got progressively worse with each visit. Vandals destroyed some of the original stain glass windows and irreplacable ornamental design elements inside. The place was stripped of copper and other valuables. It all came to a crashing end on September 27th 2021 when a raging fire completely engulfed the city owned, highly neglected building. Bulldozers were sent in the day after the fire to level the property. A empty plot of grass is all that’s left of this once magnificent property.
(Sidenote : I don’t doubt that this property had ghosts. On the right side of the photo in the window appears to be human like shape standing there. I had many strange experiences in this place so who knows? Maybe this is an old patient watching me from their room.)

Schuylkill Mall Center Court (6.22.2017 / 12:27 pm)
Taken at the former Schuylkill Mall (now demolished) in Frackville, Pennsylvania on an iPhone 6 plus.
“I had no prior knowledge of this mall. I discovered it while driving to film the Steamtown Mall in Scranton, Pennsylvania for the Dead Mall Series (2014 - ). Schuylkill Mall had a big sign on the highway so I decided to go have a look. Upon entering I knew I had stumbled upon a very special place. Schuylkill Mall was completely frozen in time. Nothing had changed since its 1980 opening. Terracotta and terrazzo floors, wood paneled abandoned storefronts, fixed multicolored tables outside the vintage pizza restaurant and several working fountains. It was like stepping out of a portal. Once my video and photos of the mall went viral mall management sent a cease and desist letter stating that I had caused damage to the mall’s reputation. Three years later the mall would be a pile of rubble. I hope it wasn’t my fault.”

“Although this photo was digitally manipulated to remove modern store advertisements standing outside the Bon Ton…the scene was pretty much just as you see it here and in the video from the Dead Mall Series (2014 - ). When I visited the Warren Mall it was experiencing its quiet last days. The mall interior was cold and quiet. The abandoned Kmart doors were unlocked. We were free to explore the entire place with no security and no people. It was wonderful.”
